I am so sick of smallpox vaccine opposition, internets, let me tell you!

Actually that's not my main problem right now. I cannot write this stupid essay, because I disagree with the main premise that globalism is somehow inherently better than nationalism, and I feel like my professor wants us to basically say that everything would be fine if the pesky old US would just fall in line.

And I cannot handle that paper right now.

But it's due in 15 freaking hours, so I guess I'll have to get over that soon.

On a related note, what kind of self-respecting Starbucks closes at 9:30?

This is hanging onto relevance by its fingernails, but can I just say that smallpox scares me so much?! SO MUCH.

A few years ago I was writing an original fic thing set during the 1600s, and a character needed to die, so I thought, hey, smallpox! And I did some research on the disease: its symptoms, its virulence, its kill rate throughout history, its images on Wikipedia.

DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD:

MOTHERFUCKER. If humanity has accomplished one fucking thing in all of history that's just an unqualified fucking good, it's having come up with a vaccine for smallpox.

Back post-9/11, when people were talking about terrorists releasing smallpox as a biological weapon? My mind just boggled with despair at the idea that anyone, anywhere, for any reason, might do such a thing.

Well, only the CDC and the Russian equivalent have any strains of smallpox left, I believe, and all other strains were destroyed. Also, to assuage your fears a bit, in 2002 the CDC published a report claiming that they had enough smallpox vaccine available to vaccinate the entire country. I'm not sure if that report was really true, but it made me feel better.

But yeah, smallpox freaks me out. Which is why I think I'm so sick of this paper. All I can think while I'm writing it is SO YOU MAY GET SOME SKIN RASH THAT'S POSSIBLY DEADLY, POSSIBLY IS STILL A BETTER SHOT THAN 1 IN 3 OR WHATEVER WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE.
